Retired from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, Federal Probation and Pretrial Academy in Charleston, South Carolina as Chief of the Safety and Firearms Branch. The Safety and Firearms Branch is responsible for serving approximately 6000 officers.
Throughout the 94 Judicial Districts, I was responsible for developing and delivering 6 national training programs, policy development, equipment, budgeting, curriculum development, and supervising up to 20 staff members. I had the privilege of being part of the original staff who created and opened the Federal Probation and Pretrial Academy (FLETC) in 2005.
Prior to 2005, I served as a probation officer and supervisor in the District of Arizona. I was co-creator of the district’s officer safety academy. I remain a practitioner of firearms, tactics, and self-defense. I have been training officers for over 20 years and I strongly advocate cross-training for officers and instructors.
I am a Certified Force Science Analyst and serve as a Master Instructor for the International Performance, Resilience, and Efficiency Program (iPrep) through the University of Toronto, Continuing Professional Development.
I believe my biggest strengths are developing effective training programs, improving existing training programs, and delivering professional training. I favor setting my students up for success by meeting students where they are and making improvements together incrementally.
